What is Empowered Cricket?

Our Mission, Vision, and History

Mission & Vision

Empowered Cricket teaches girls and women to find and develop their personal voice through sport. Cricket is all about protecting the boundary. We use that natural aspect of the game to teach them to protect their own personal boundaries as well.

Our mission is to unleash the inner strength of each girl and young woman. This newly harnessed confidence will cross into all aspects of their daily lives.

Our vision is to reduce the number of crimes against females. Potential victims will have the knowledge and confidence to #protectheboundary, those already violated will find courage to speak out against past.

About Us

My name is Jocelyn Stephenson, and I come from a long line of women who have been abused. All five of the women in my immediate family have been, in some way, inappropriately treated, whether sexually, physically or emotionally.

In elementary school, I came across a lot of girls like me. In middle school, three of my friends tried to commit suicide. I became their protector. I became their voice.

The Idea Behind Empowered Cricket

In 2007 I learned about cricket… the sport.

It’s a game that uses fielders to protect the boundary from exploitation. If a batsman can find a weakness, more runs will be scored off the play.

My mom and I put two and two together. Cricket is the perfect vehicle to teach girls and women how to set their own personal boundaries, find and develop their personal voice at the same time they are training and playing the world’s second most popular sport.

This idea became Empowered Cricket..

We piloted the program in fall 2018 at Tuggeranong Valley Cricket Club in Canberra, Australia. 100% of the adult volunteers said that the lessons they taught caused them to speak out in situations that they would have beforehand just let slide. 100% of the girls who were polled said that they each took something from the lessons that helped them in situations where before, they felt helpless.

Empowered Cricket is in the process of being trademarked in the US and Australia.
